The Shrine of Otaku Fandom

I haven’t really made many figure posts primarily because, where do I begin? I don’t usually get many figurines, and suddenly to start blogging about them is a little daunting. I do get some novelty figures, like the Higurashi no Naku Koro ni Daybreak Gachapon collectables and the Pani Poni Dash tradables, but that was mainly a perk of the hour. I have a few reasons for not doing posts like these.

For starters; the camera on my phone may be 5 Megapixel but it surely does not captivate me with it’s quality. Secondly, my room is generally a mess and it is only until recently that I have organized my figures (because they have become plentiful) in a way that is aesthetically appeasing. Thirdly, I have soo many things packed away and organizing my room in such a fashion to utilize enough space to place everything accordingly with a lack of shelves or wall mountings is a nightmare. So I present to you, my desk shrine.

It isn’t exactly a great shrine and it does not stay like this unfortunately, Haha. These are just some of the prominent pieces of the subculture merchandise I have collected primarily over the past year or so. At first I thought buying this stuff was kind of silly, but I have grown to love acquiring it all and collecting them. As you can tell, I’m an avid fan of Higurashi / Umineko / Shana. You could also say a fan of Haruhi except expectations and standards have been lowered recently, and I shouldn’t have to go into that.

So what we have here really is my figure collection, artbooks, DVD’s, and some miscellaneous. I shall go through it all!

From left to right, in the back we have;

  • Higurashi no Naku Koro ni Kai Stick Poster BOX; they are pretty big, banner style posters featuring 8 different prints, randomly placed in scrolls of 2. There’s a total of 16 posters in the box (and naturally I got 2 of each print). I ended up giving away 2 different ones to my friend that featured Rika, because she loves that character. Personally I’m a Rena fan.
  • Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann Box Set (DVD’s 1 & 2), Claymore Volume 1, Full Metal Alchemist Movie Limited Edition (I won this in a competition), Elfen Lied Boxset (Fatpack), Evangelion 1.0 DVD.
  • Higurashi no Naku Koro ni Rei File.01, 02, 03. Oyashiro Edition Region2 DVD’s with a Dakimakura corresponding to the character on the front inside each box. I still need to get File.04 and 05.
  • On top of those DVD Boxes is 1/72 Noblesse Oblige by Kotobukiya. This was a model kit built by me, it didn’t take long to complete it but the disappointing fact about this model is the weapons and railgun wings weren’t coloured in the featured image, as a prepainted model.
  • Yuki Nagato, Haruhi Suzumiya, Mikuru Asahina 1/8 PVC’s all in their Extravaganza outfits with instruments to boot. These are by Max Factory.
  • The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya Box Set and the Shakugan no Shana Boxset.
  • On top of those DVD Boxsets is Banpresto’s model kit of a 1/100 Ignition Mode Exia from Gundam 00. This Gundam featured so many alternative choices for build that it was an excellent buy. I built it in it’s damaged form at the beginning of Season 2.
  • 1/7 Shana Sweet Yellow Version by Griffon Enterprises, Nendoroid Shana Enpatsu by Goodsmile Company, 1/8 Shana by Max Factory.
  • Nendoroid Yoko by Goodsmile Company,  1/8 Bounty Hunter Yoko by Alter.

A bit further in front of the backrow, we have a line of figures from left to right we have;

  • Goodsmile Company’s Nendoroid Nozomu Itoshiki and Nendoroid MikkuMiku Kagamin.
  • A bit tricky to comment on but, Banpresto’s Higurashi Deformation Figures (All of them), and the Takara Tomy Arts Higurashi Daybreak tradables aligned in front of them (In between).
  • In between all of those miniatures, is Wave’s 1/8 Rika Furude and Hanyuu. (These two are stunning and I wish Wave picked up the rest of the cast).
  • Further to the right is 1/8 Touko Aozaki by Alter.
  • Goodsmile Company’s Nendoroid Saber Lily, and 1/7 Saber Lily Avalon.

So that’s it for figures, now what about the clutter taking up the biggest portion of the main desk? Well I’ll also split this into two rows. On the first row we have, and I seriously only realize that I ordered it like this, entirely Illustration Books;

  • Higurashi no Naku Koro ni Kai Guide Book, Higurashi no Naku Koro ni Guide Book, the Higurashi Official Illustration Book, Noizi Ito’s; The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya, Shakugan no Shana #2 and #1

On the second row we have;

  • PC Game: Umineko no Naku Koro ni Episodes 1-4, the Complete Umineko Guide Book (The cover looked cool and it was a worthless yet compulsive buy since I can hardly read the moon runes), Umineko no Naku Koro ni Episode 4 Guide Book (Illustration Book) and the Trick or Treat Official Anime Fan Book (I got this because it had a cute Maria on the front, and it was Halloween related. It contains signatures by the cast and some randomly drawings).
  • Dengeki G’s Festival Volume 8, with the Limited Edition Box (Magazine was worthless but it was cheaper then buying the Dakimakura it came with seperately. Also came with ID Case and a cellphone cleaner, all Shana related).
  • And finally a fairly large thin cloth towel with the 3 young main female characters from Umineko no Naku Koro ni at the beach (I got this because Maria was soo cute, but yet again another splurge).

And that’s that! For now, I most certainly have other figures hidden away. Not to mention all the posters and wall scrolls I have. What I really want to do is expand my DVD collection, but Madman Entertainment DVD’s are really expensive and lack some of the major series I enjoy. As for the, and I count, four Dakimakura’s I have; I don’t put them in Pillows and they are entirely for decoration. I plan to hang them on my wall on the non-perverted side, although I may flip them around from time to time.
