Umineko no Naku Koro ni – 10

Summary:

The servants rush to the family in the parlour to tell them of what extreme and terrible events had just occured, or at least attempt to. Rosa cautiously invites everyone to check the room, and upon opening the doors, the corpses of Nanjo and Kumasawa are missing and all that is left is the blood stains and a letter on the table. The letter reads that the only way to stop the ceremony from continuing is to solve the epitaph and inside are the keys of two deceased. Once again this is a closed room incident; the original key is in the room and it is deduced by Rosa that the only people capable of locking the door after removing the bodies are those with Master Keys, the three remaining servants. Meta-Battler is left shattered by Beatrice’s red truth that he cannot bare suspecting one of them.

The servants hand over their keys to an untrusting Rosa, and she deposits them in Maria’s handbag. Maria says that keys are meaningless and Battler surrenders to the witch being the culprit, hugging Maria, who kisses him on the cheek. George joins the servants who break away from the family to the kitchen. They decide to look retrieve a warding mirror from Natsuhi’s bedroom when Shannon’s tale of smashing the shrine mirror is exposed, but it is in her locked room, so they head to the Chapel where her corpse is.

Battler reconciles with Maria but reviewing the Epitaph she scrawled in her diary, with talk of Risk in magic. Genji breaks away from the servants and Gohda, George and Shannon enter the chapel. Shannon retrieves the key from the corpse of Natsuhi and a swarm of Golden Butterflies appear. The trio make a run for it and spot Beatrice drifting above the table, before escaping back into the mansion. They open Natsuhi’s room and open her drawers to discover a locked chest which holds the mirror. They hear cackling outside the open room and Gohda leaps up to close the door and peers down the hallway to witness an entourage of strange goat-headed men in butler attire. Gohda slams the door but the lock is denying him and as he holds it closed, two hands reach through the door and pick him up. It is one of the stakes of Purgatory and it pierces his chest through the door, the goatheaded butlers file in through the door and Beatrice materializes infront of them laughing hysterically.

Thoughts:

Beatrice has been growing and growing as one of my favourite characters. Her laugh is just soo amazing, her facial expressions, and the way she is playing this game are all incredible. I would like to pay homage to the coldhearted badass-ness that is Rosa-sama, the mother of the year and troll of this episode. The only thing I didn’t get out of this entire episode is Battler’s surrender to the witch in this game, and confiding in Maria.

So, some highlights of this episode; another confusing closed room case. There are always a few thought of inconcistencies in the Red Truth, but this one seemed solid – I do have my theories though that haven’t been debunked. Another highlight was the Beatrice Red Truth attack, where she shattered Battler’s will to fight in this game. But the main scene I enjoyed was poor Gohda getting the witches fury, queue the track; Worldend Dominator, and Goha spotting those Goatheaded Butlers was bone-chilling and made me sad that it was the end of the episode. Once again I have to compliment the Stake Voice acting, while the last two have been K-ON girls they do such an excellent job being altogether creepy.

With the Arc set at six episodes long, the next episode is going to be the last of this game and with what happened at the end of this one, it should be rather amazingly paced to tie up everything and have the tea parties. Rosa Musou ftw.
