Summary:
After disposing of Gohda, Beatrice attacks Shannon and George with her furniture. But Shannon’s hidden power is revealed and she defends against all of her attacks, even the fake Kanon with her enhanced power from the Mirror. Beatrice’s power is just too strong for them both and they are annihilated by her stakes.
Genji discovers the corpses of Nanjo and Kumasawa outside in the rain and informs Rosa. Upon seeing the bodies outside, they realise that three twilights as written in the Epitaph have been skipped and rush to Natsuhi’s room to find the others. They find all three of them dead with stakes buried in them, shocked and grieved, they take shelter in the parlour where Genji leaves them again. Battler discovers a letter on the table and Rosa immediately suspects him of being a wolf.
Battler by himself in the dining room, is imposed upon by Genji asking him to join Beatrice and his grandfather in the study. It is there that he finds both of them and Beatrice claims that she will answer all of his questions if he surrenders to her and kisses her shoes. He does. The celebration for entry into the golden land has started and Beatrice marches down her line of furniture with Battler chained and naked like a dog. She summons Kinzo to the ceremony and he is devoured by the goatmen, and so is Battler shortly after. Meanwhile, Rosa and Maria are on the run from Beatrice’s minions and Rosa defends her daughter with everything she has claiming that they will be together forever.
It is midnight again and Rosa is fastened to a chair with Beatrice on the other side, torturing her with meals comprised of body parts of her sibling that are once again causing her turmoil. The main course dish is Maria’s head on a platter served with Apples, it talks back to her and Rosa is brought to tears surrendering to the witch. It is at that point that Battler materializes given a new strength and claims that he is yet to be beaten by her game. The Witches Tea party continues and the Witch of Certainty, Lambdadelta joins them claiming to have finally found Bernkastel, still holding a grudge from her ‘last game’. Lambda is deliberately betting against Bernkastel.
Thoughts:
Loved this episode. Mostly because of Rosa being a badass close to the end defending Maria. She showed us that she actually does care about her daughter and did it in a way that made her character awesome. However, the episode needed less time with Shannon and George, in that respect though and a lot of the episode was wasted. The leadup was a bit lackluster but the end was both gruesome and interesting, especially the Human Tea Party. The much anticipated Rosa Musou was very cool, but shortlived and seeing the Goats rip Kinzo and a naked Battler to pieces was definately sickening.
I have to say though, that the defining moment in this episode was when Battler came back with full force to the table, and gloated out the line: “Slice up those cow tits of yours and make me a sandwich”. That and Battler’s sexual innuendo to Maria’s head, explaining that she is ten years too early for someone to ‘eat’ her. His comeback made me think twice about the patheticness that Battler had become lately and I look forward to his antics in the episodes to come.
The Witches Tea party was VERY short, too short. I wanted to get some more screen time of Lambdadelta, hopefully some banter between the witches but instead it was just a small threat to kick start the next game. You’d think that the new witch would get more then a few seconds introduction.
I’ve watched this episode at least 5 times, because I liked it soo much, to the point that I link the final third of the episode to friends hoping for a “What the Fuck?” reaction, and it is what I get, with the rare; “Tell me this anime, I must watch it”. It is still way too early to be guessing anything though as this episode threw my mindset out of whack, with the insanity of those last 10 minutes. I don’t know who/what to suspect, and with only two arcs there isn’t many consistencies to go by to start. Third arc starts next week, Battler should be better equip to handle the witches trump cards. Although, Beatrice for the win.
Excuse the large amount of pictures, this episode was about as fast paced as three episodes of Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann, put together.
